Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Art Director, Children’s Books, Boston, MA March 2006 –Present
Design and direct the look of high-quality picture books, novelty books and young adult fiction jackets and
interiors. Work closely with world-class illustrators, authors and editors to create 20-25 titles per year. Oversee
staff designers, spearhead the Curious George franchise and created server-based workflow system, saving
time and money. Work honored as Best of by Bookbuilders of Boston, Society of Illustrators.
Candlewick Press Book Designer; Cambridge, MA January 2003 –March 2006
Design high-quality picture books, novelty books and young adult fiction jackets and interiors. Work closely
with world-class illustrators, authors and editors to create 15-20 titles per year. Designed New York Times #1
bestselling Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs and its sequels with Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart.
Co-designed critically acclaimed Jazz A•B•Z by Wynton Marsalis. Create collateral to support marketing and
sales efforts. Work honored as Best of Category by Bookbuilders of Boston.
Freelance Illustration Freelance Illustrator and Designer; Reading, MA June 1999 –Present
Operate freelance illustration and design business. Create a variety of diverse print and online projects
from inception to completion. Currently under contract to illustrate picture books for Houghton Mifflin
and Harcourt Trade Publishers. Illustrated three board books for brand-new foreign language series by Berlitz
Publishing available in five languages. Produced iconography for Martha Stewart television project. Designed
original spot illustrations and animation for Hewlett -Packard intranet. Developed and illustrated animations
for Pearson Education, Fablevision Studios and The Creative Group.
Terra Lycos Inc. Senior Graphic Designer; LycosZone Waltham, MA January 2001 –May 2001
Solely created new interface for LycosZone, the Lycos kids’ website. Awarded WebAward Standard of
Excellence for LycosZone redesign. Mastered Photoshop, Flash and Illustrator to illustrate games, characters,
environments and navigational elements for this popular, high-traffic web site. Increased web traffic.
Developed marketing collateral and mini-site co-brand for Dannon kids’ site. Designed conceptual mock-ups
for LycosZone co-brand designs with Coca-Cola, General Mills, and Ralston Purina.
Quickdot.com Senior Graphic Designer; Waltham, MA March 2000 –January 2001
Designed corporate site, product interface and ancillary marketing collateral for browser-based instant
messaging service with over seven million members. Increased web traffic. Illustrated characters and site elements
using Photoshop. Coded HTML pages, worked closely with software development team.
Iconomy.com Graphic Designer; Cambridge, MA January 1999 –March 2000
Designed e-commerce web sites for LA Times, American Greetings, eGreetings, Excite@Home, Blue
Mountain Arts and more. Created compelling Flash ads. Illustrated icons, animations.
International Data Group (IDG) Design Editor; Boston, MA October 1995 –January 1999
Created, designed and maintained Lotus Domino Intranet for global 24-hour news organization. Oversaw
small art department. Wrote breaking news stories as needed. Met challenging deadlines.
