My love of illustration is made up of two halves. One part is purely aesthetic,
and comes from a love of light and line, color and contour. I love playing with
the elements of a medium, I love the feel of a pencil in my hand, I love laying
two colors next to each other and seeing how they relate. I love trying to coax
life out of art supplies. This exploration is so much fun, a limitless pleasure.
The other half of my love of illustration stems from the definition of illustration-
something that illuminates, or brings to light, a text. It is a great challenge
and a huge pleasure to try to both complement a text and to extend it. And I want
to be inspired to say something with my images; it is the meaning behind the work that keeps me attracted to this field.
My exploration of these media and new ideas is on-going. I will never master these paints, or exhaust the material from which to get story ideas. This is why illustration is such a pleasure to do. It is a process, and there will always be things to say with images and words. I love its infiniteness. That is why I do what I do.
